Christmas in Colorado

Merry Christmas to all! It all started with the trip to the wonderful state of Colorado. Melinda, Afton, Bree, Daniel and I all drove out. Just missing a ginormous storm in Utah- whew! Everything went flawlessly until we hit Denver... Afton, being 4 months pregnant was getting sick so we pulled over. She asked for shoes to go outside. Being the generous, kind sister that I am I threw her the shoes (slippers) I wore to our wedding and right as I threw it it met up with her sick...:-( Sad. Its ok Afton, it happens. To start things off Daniel and I celebrated our one year anniversary on the 20th! I can't believe its been one year since we were married. Time flies when your havin' fun. Our anniversary happens to be on the same day as my parents so we celebrated it together in a little Japanese restaurant in Parker, CO. Best sushi and food I've ever had! Absolutely delicious.

We celebrated Christmas all week long by: making goodies, going shopping, shooting, lounging around the house and watching movies. It was so relaxing and wonderful to be at home. 

We made fudge, homemade doughnuts, puppy chow and candy caramel cereal mix something. 

This is what Daniel and my brothers did the majority of the time... playing the Wii. Heck, its Christmas and a vacation! 

A tradition we have in my family is to get pajamas Christmas Eve. This year our theme was Superman. You can't tell but the girls pants are superman, with just a touch of femininity (I spelled that right the first time, I'll have you know!) The reason I look so goofy is because I had to push down the button on 3 cameras so I had to jump into the picture before the timers ran out. 

This is Daniel and I Christmas Morning. We have a tradition in the family to all sleep in the same room Christmas Eve night, but because our family is growing we weren't able to do that this year. However, I still got not a lot of sleep and it was early in the morning. 

Matthew got an iPod shuffle and was so excited!

Bree got a new hat and coat from uncle Matson. She was so done with the attention she was getting. 

The day after Christmas we were going to fly home for Amy and Bens wedding! But then our flight got canceled:-( We were in the airport for a long time and saw 'Carlton' from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air!! That was awesome! Anyway, we missed her wedding because of the weather. I cried. We got there in time for the reception thank heavens and it was beautiful. Amy and Ben were so happy. All of Daniels family was there. We got to have Daniels brother Jonny and his wife Andrea and their two children up at our house. They are so much fun, we had a great time! Then New Years Eve we played games and ate junk food with Lizza and Jerad, Daniels sister and brother-in-law. It was so fun! I need to get a new phrase... According to tradition Daniel went and jumped in the river at 12am. I didn't get a picture but you probably wouldn't have been able to see it anyway. Its tradition! We had a great vacation- with so much family and the spirit of the holidays. 

Now Daniels senior year begins. We will be deciding which medical school we are going to. I am teaching pre-school this semester and we are planning a huge 92 hour U.S. tour this summer which will include the church history sites, a reunion and a visit to Daniels mission. Yeah! I'm excited! Anyone want to come with us? 

Changes... + Additions...

Alright, so it has been one month since I pulled out in front of another car and sent our dear sweet subaru to car heaven. We have looked at dozens of cars. Daniel became quite the expert at car lingo and what was and wasn't a 'good deal'. Finally we brought one home and we are so excited!! Shes a Honda Accord so we hope to have her for a long time. And here she is: Please excuse my expression I had just woken up and didn't have quite enough time to practice my smile:-)

In other news, I chopped and dyed my hair. Now, short hair is not a new thing for me. I have had short hair a ton. However, never in my whole life have I colored my hair so this is a first. At first I thought that I was going to keep trying to grow it out,  but then I talked to Afton and well just decided to try one more short cut. While getting my hair cut Daniel called and told me he had been rear-ended in our brand new car. The roads were super slick and someone bumped into him... yeah it was a good thing I was getting my hair done:-) No major damage was done, we will need a whole new bumper though... lame! We should just hire a driver! 

Merry Christmas!

Here is our very first Christmas tree in our very first house for our very first Christmas, well besides the last one- but that didn't count cuz we were getting married! Thanks mom for getting us our sweet tree. We are going to Colorado for the first part of the holiday to play with my family then on the 26th we are heading out for Amy and Ben's wedding and to party with the Jacobs! 

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving! Daniel and I sure did. We went up to the Jacobs cousins in Sandy and had such a wonderful time with the Jacobs, Nelsons, Lakes, Swensons and friends. Our meal was delicious and the company enjoyable. We love love love our family! After we snuck out of the festivities Daniel and I went and watched Dark Knight, which I have to say was a lot better the second time around. I love the holidays! 

This will mark the first anniversary of Daniel and I and I'm so excited to decorate and shop and be with family! Eeee- so excited. Can you believe we've been married almost one year!? Plus we are stoked for Amy and Ben's wedding and to find out the sex of Matson and Aftons baby. Ye-haw, aren't the holidays awesome?! 

So just to keep everyone in the know, Daniel has been excepted to every medical school he has interviewed at, except the University of Utah but they won't let us know until March... I'm not too worried :-) Our choices are: Colorado, Missouri, Tennessee and Florida. We are still weighing the pros and cons of both and haven't decided where we will end up. Its an exciting time for us. Isn't Daniel so amazing? 

In other news, Stephanie crashed our family car this past month....

It was my fault, I'm an idiot. But no one was hurt, my car for sure got the brunt of the impact. The other cars tire got smashed and thats it. So we are in the market for another car. Not by choice so its really hard. We've never bought a car before! I don't like it :-) Daniel is gun-ho about it and being wonderful, but I just want a car and be done with it. We loved the Subaru but we test drove one and I freaked out so we'll have to have that be our second first car. Anyway, we are hopefully getting a car this weekend!

Update

I guess its about time for a little update in with the Daniel Jacobs side of the family. Lets see... so an update in the medical school extravaganza. So far Daniel has gotten 7 interviews out of 11 applications. Two in Florida, one in Tennessee, Missouri, Colorado, West Virginia and University of Utah. And so far he has actually been to three (he is in the Tennessee airport coming home as we speak). Out of the three (one being very new) he has been accepted to both Rocky Mountain Vista in Colorado and LECOM in Bradenton Florida! Things went well in Tennessee so we are crossing our fingers. Its in a tiny town. The nearest Wal-Mart is in Kentucky and our ward will be in a different town. Nothing has been decided yet. And I am afraid that the decision isn't going to get any easier as he continues to go to interviews so we'll see what happens. 

Our Halloween was fun. Daniel went as Nacho Libre- it was hilarious he wore stretchy womans pants and everything, and I was a little devil (yes, there was a costume). To start things off the Beehives were in charge of the Halloween party for the youth. I was assigned to the food. It was a lot of fun. We had eye ball cupcakes and 'moldy' deviled eggs and oodles of candy. We played games and had prizes, I think it was a hit. Halloween night we went to a party at a fellow aspiring doctors house. We pumpkin bowled and blew up pumpkins with fireworks (yes, Daniel did more of the exploding part). I'll post pictures soon. Daniel has the camera so I can see the places he has been:-) 

We are anxiously awaiting the homecoming of Daniels younger brother Matthew. We are excited about new additions to the family, planning a wedding and so on. Its a crazy life for us Jacobs' but a fun one. 

 

Oh a hunting we will go!

So this weekend was a lot of fun. A lot of firsts for both Daniel and I. I guess you could say we are exploring new things. First of all Daniel got ANOTHER interview in Florida! Horray! It's at the end of October so everyone cross their fingers! 

Daniel went antelope hunting this weekend in Wyoming with Brother-in-law Matson and Joseph. Matson is a die hard hunter and invited the men along for the first hunt of the season. They didn't all have tags so Matsons dad did the actual shooting. They saw a group of antelope (is that what their 'heard' is called) and in order to maintain the element of surprise they hiked around a small canyon and up a hill. The antelope was targeted and didn't stand a chance against long time hunter. Two shots and it was down. They gutted it right then and there. I'm learning a lot about hunting because of Matson and apparently with antelope you have to quickly gut and pack the meat on ice or you have bad meat. Joseph did most of the gutting, but Daniels hour of triumph came when he got to touch all the organs and especially the heart. I think that's about all the detail we will go into on that. After they packed the meat in ice 4 men had to carry a 200lb carcass back to the car. All of this taking about 2 1/2 hours. At home the men finished with the gutting and all that- oh what fun. According to Daniel all the boys had a good weekend. 

While all of the boys are gone, what are the poor alone wives to do? Surely there isn't enough cooking and cleaning to be done. Friends? "What are those?", asks Steph.  "Mine are all pregnant", sighs Afton. "Did I change Bree, or put the diaper on her head?" thinks Melinda, so friends have tended to disappear. We tried the whole 'having a girls night'. That ended in a conversation about Stephanies latest songs learned in elementary education classes (A Tooty Tot!) and Afton saying something about like being a teacher or something. Then Melinda was going on and on about this craving for Maggie Moos- satisfied only by peanut butter cup ice cream. So we were at an impasse with our beloved's having 'man-cation'. Can you guess what happened as a result? That's right- Saturday we decided to get freaky and we went to Maggie Moos! Just kidding. I had never been to Park City, so we went shopping! Now that's what I'm talking about! We thought we'd hit up the outlets in the city and just hang for the afternoon. The boys were about 45 min from us so we eventually thought of the idea of meeting them for dinner. Well... to  make a long story short it ended with Afton actually buying something in a cooking store, Melinda getting all dolled up for her post-pregnancy days and left me yearning for an adorable red jacket and an ice cream maker (which was a first for me, #1 not buying a jacket and #2 going home with no ice cream). The boys were going to be home at about 9 so we decided to just eat without them and meet them back in Provo. Uh... so we just got shopping.... and they actually ended up beating us home:-) Us girls had a fantastic time in Park City and Bree was an AMAZING baby. Naturally, pictures of her are all I have. So this is her playing with Aunty Steph while Afton and Mel neglect her to shop:-) Just look at what they missed! 

He's probably not going to like this too much....

So I have to make an announcement. I am not sure Daniel is going to approve of this, but I think it's really exciting! Daniel got an interview for a medical school in Colorado today!! YEAH!!! Its starting. After years and YEARS of preparation on his part he is in the final stages of getting accepted to medical school. I am so proud of him. He has worked his BUTT off to make his dream come true and I couldn't be more excited for him. I mean, yes, this is the first one and who knows what will happen but it is still such a relief to hear back from somewhere. We spend hours and hours applying and giving them money and now its starting to pay off. Daniel is an excellent applicant and anyone would be lucky to have him :-) So it begins! First interview... we'll hopefully have a few more to contact us and then again hopefully someone will let us come. It doesn't hurt that this one is also in Colorado! Greatest state on earth. Fall is here!

Sorry sorry, its been a while! Lots has happened in the Jacobs world. This past August we went up to Idaho for a wonderful Jacobs Family Reunion. It was a lot of fun in beautiful Kellogg, ID. Here are Daniel and I inside a silver mine! 

We have also had a few additions to our family. My sister Melinda had a baby girl named Brielle and Daniels sister Liza had a baby girl named Elsie. Yeah! We are so excited that we 

are so close to these little babies. 

Then we started school and with that comes Daniels birthday! He turned 24 last Friday. So we had a party. All of his family came and a lot of his friends. We had a lot of fun. Daniel got to jump in the rive and have all of his favorite things ie. swedish fish, candy corn, red vines and guava cake. Yummy! He was happy camper. Thank you to everyone that came to celebrate with us. It was awesome!

We're Back

Oh it's been a good weekend. Everything started off by Melinda and I flying to Colorado on Friday. Our husbands were in Colorado for Aarons camp. This is a camp our stake does every 2 years and Daniel and Joseph were assigned to be over about 10 boys. They had been gone since Sunday and we were sad. So we headed out there to surprise them for a parents dinner they hold Friday nights.
Our plane was a little late and we got a tiny bit lost on our way there. Daniel had been hoping that I would surprise him and show up that night. But because we were late he thought I wasn't coming. By the time we got there they had already had their opening song and everything. So people were starting to get their dinner when we showed up. Initially I couldn't find him anywhere. With the help of my dad I saw him on the other side of the camp. I just started to walk towards him and he didn't see me. He was just a chattin with the boys in his group. Finally when I was about 2 feet in front of him he noticed me and about jumped out of his chair. Needless to say he was surprised and almost as excited as I was. This is after the initial shock:

Daniel had a good time up there. He was the leader of about 12 teachers from Monument Ward. Teaching them all the essentials. Including how to knock someone out, which- of course- he demonstrated successfully on a kid. There was also a bike accident that Daniel used his EMT/medical background in. They did a ropes course, rappelling, bike riding and so on. They were dirty, smelly boys but I think they had a good time.

After he got back we had a good weekend/fathers day with my family.

It was a great weekend. I got to see a lot of people I haven't seen in a while and just be home for a bit. I'm a Colorado girl through and through. We won't be back all the way until July:-)

I'm A Lonely Wife

So Melinda and I decided on the way down from taking our husbands to the airport that we were going out to surprise them. We looked online and the tickets were lots of dinero, so we didn't think it was going to be possible. We are, after all, poor newly weds. Plus there was work to think about and Melinda is 35 weeks pregnant and yady yady yady.
Turns out our desperation got the better of us! And we are headed out Friday to surprise Daniel and Joseph at the dinner they have for the families at Aarons Camp! HORRAY! It's been 6 hours since he has been out of service and now that I am going to see him 3 whole entire days early, I'm a happy wife! So Colorado here we come! And it's fathers day! What a good surprise, don't you think? I'm way excited.

Welcome!

I've been getting lectured for a while now to get Daniel and my blog going. So, here it is! This is us.

Just to update everyone. Daniel and I are both working and going to school. Daniel is majoring in psyiology and developmental biology at BYU. He just took the MCAT and we will find out the results the end of June. We are planning on going to medical school the fall of 2009. Where? We don't know nor are we going to be very picky. As for right now he is thinking of doing emergency medicine. He has been working in a research lab at BYU.
I am going to UVSC studying elementary education. That's a long story but I should be done the same time as Daniel, next April. I am working at a podiatrist office in Provo. We live in Orem Utah. Fun Fun! But this summer we are just working, playing with family, going to Colorado and family reunions in Idaho. We have a lot of family here in the area, it's a lot of fun to hang out with them a lot.
Right now Daniel is in Colorado at Aarons camp and I have the duty to hold down the fort in Utah. Trying to keep myself busy will ensure plenty of posts:-) But for now Ciao!
